Circular Dry Brushing
Step 1: Choose the right brush. Use a natural-bristle brush (boar hair or horse hair are the best). Make sure it has a firm but not overly abrasive texture. Always begin the process—whether you are dry brushing your seven-eighths (your body) or your one-eighth (your face)—by first gently placing the brush on your skin, and then moving the brush gently yet thoroughly in a circular motion — clockwise or counter clockwise.
Step 2: Always start at the feet. Begin with small, gentle circles starting at the feet and working upward. Pay particular attention to the soles and bottom of your feet. Use wider, longer circles as you move to larger skin areas like the thighs, buttocks, abdomen and back. Focus on areas like thighs, abdomen, and arms for extra circulation enhancement and lymphatic drainage benefits. This circular brushing in the abdomen area also aids the digestive process. Work your way upward toward the heart in long, circular, sweeping motions to encourage lymphatic flow.
Step 3: Take a shower to cleanse away exfoliated skin cells, opening pores, and rinse with warm or very warm water.
Step 4: Hydrate and replenish your seven-eighths by applying Seven 8ths Hydrating Body Cream or Seven 8ths Harmonizing Body Milk to your skin. Paying extra attention to areas prone to dryness like feet, elbows, knees, hands, and heels. Make sure to follow the movement of lymphatic drainage to support your overall health and vitality.
Then move to your one-eighth (your face) and hydrate and replenish your radiance with Seven 8ths Rebalancing Face Moisturizer. Always begin with your eyes, applying a thin layer over closed eyes and gently massaging it into the entire eye area before moving to the rest of the face. Massage the moisturizer into your face, neck, and upper chest following the lines of lymphatic drainage for maximum effects. Remember there are a great number of lymph vessels in the face and neck.
Step 1: Remove Loose Debris: Pound out your Seven 8ths Dry Brush in your bathroom sink to remove any loose hair or debris from the bristles after every use. We recommend pounding your brush 5–10 times or until no debris remains.
Step 2: Sanitize: After every use, and after you have pounded out your dry brush, spritz your bristles with a sanitizing solution directly onto the bristles of your brush. We recommend 5–8 spritzes per brush after use. Below are three recipe options for sanitizing solutions.
In your sanitizing spray bottle that comes with your Seven 8ths dry brush, mix one of the following sanitizing solutions:
- 2 ozs of isopropyl rubbing alcohol OR
- 1.5 ounces of vinegar and 0.5 ozs water OR
- 2 oz of water (pH 5.5) and 4 drops of tea tree oil
Step 3: Wash your Seven 8ths Dry Brush: Shampoo or wash (with mild soap) your dry brush once a week or every two weeks. Immediately after washing, douse the bristles of your brush with alcohol. This evaporates moisture quickly very quickly and helps to maintain the stiffness of the bristles. Allow your brush to air dry, bristles up. When completely dry, store your dry brush bristles down in your bathroom.
Step 4: Storing your Seven 8ths Dry Brush: Always store your Seven 8ths dry brush bristles down on a clean surface in your bathroom. Do not store it bristles up. Doing so encourages dust and debris from the surrounding air to settle in your dry brush. Make sure your bathroom or where you store your brushes is well ventilated with ample air circulation.
Step 5: Replacement and retirement of your Seven 8ths Dry Brush: Replace your dry brush every 3–4 months. Remember, the recommendation is the same for your toothbrush. This is to avoid the buildup of bacteria, and to maintain bristle stiffness for the most effective dry brushing. Your dry brush may be retired to become your shower brush for another 3–4 months before full retirement.
